Mary Winser is well on her to way to creating future stars in South Australia.

The Golf South East MyGolf centre promotes junior golf at 14 separate golf clubs in the region, with some clubs more than 200km apart!

The program travels across the south-eastern corner of South Australia to various centres that are unable to provide access to suitable coaching resources or volunteers that are willing to commit to a junior program on a regular basis.

“Coaches, children and parents travel up to 120km or more to attend the MyGolf sessions,” Golf South East MyGolf co-ordinator Mary Winser said.

After an hour lesson of fun golfing activities, the parents join the kids on-course to play three, six or nine holes depending on skill level. After the day of golfing excitement, all socialise in the clubhouse for a free lunch provided by the host club.

“Once a MyGolfer has attained a Golf Australia handicap of 30-40, they are promoted to the Golf South East futures academy group, who also attend the same venue on the day and undergo their skill development sessions afterward,” Mary said.

While the MyGolf and academy groups are out on course, the Golf South East coaches conduct a come and try session for local children.

“The group varies in age, generally from five to eight years old,” Mary said. The kids are then encouraged to join the MyGolf group to be part of a fun and social golfing community.

Numbers continue to grow for the Golf South East group, reaching 35 children across the MyGolf, academy and come-and-try groups for the recent May session.

Keep up the great work, Golf South East!
