MyGolf Junior League tees off
MyGolf Junior League

The MyGolf Junior League is up and away!

The official beachside launch on the New South Wales central coast had the kids excited to compete for their club in an encouraging environment.

Hosted by Shelly Beach Golf Club, the pilot was greeted by a stunning winter’s day.

The two competing clubs, Shelly Beach and North Ryde Golf Club, honoured the nation’s first junior league day with good sportsmanship and plenty of fun.

The kids were very enthusiastic, arriving on course more than an hour before the launch!

Host Mick Lamaro provided a warm welcome for all involved, including parents.

Following introductions, the two-person ambrose competition ensued for a day of fun and laughter.

“It was the perfect weather day and the kids had a lot of fun,” said Jack Newton Junior Golf territory manager Greg Watkinson.

“It was a learning curve for some of the kids and the parents and we were really impressed with the way that it went.”

Twenty juniors took part with the support of their parents, who were volunteering to caddie and rake bunkers along the way.

Following the competition, an array of party food was provided for all involved as a thanks for their efforts.

After Mick’s announcement of the scores, some kids even raced outside for more putting!

“I would like to thank the two clubs involved in the pilot,” Greg said. “North Ryde arranged the travel and opportunity for 10 kids.

“Mick was a sensational host and made everyone feel welcome at Shelly Beach. All food and drink was provided by the club – they didn’t charge anything for the day.

“I’d also like to thank the parents, whose involvement is critical.

“The club were welcoming and made them feel part of the day – and not just a drop-off service for the event.”

Golf Australia golf development director Cameron Wade was impressed with the pilot’s result.

“The MyGolf junior league initiative is a fantastic step for junior development,” Cameron said. “It is a fundamental pathway from MyGolf to on-course familiarity.”

The MyGolf Junior League is open to active MyGolf centres and will continue to roll out across the country this year.
