Yarrawonga MyGolf Girls camp a hit
MyGOlf Girls Develoment Camp Yarrawonga Mulwala

Twenty-eight girls came together from around Victoria for the wildly successful MyGolf Girls Development Camp at Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Resort last month.

The girls, aged between 10-16 with a variety of abilities, were provided with a great opportunity to meet other young girls with a passion for golf, aiming to build friendships, support and develop all aspects of their golf game with an emphasis on fun.

The girls were under the guidance of PGA teaching professionals and Golf Australia staff for the duration of the camp and covered all aspects of their game, such as long game, pitching, chipping, bunkers, putting, strength and conditioning and course management.

The camp also included team building activities, mindfulness session and a movie night.

“I had attended this camp to learn new aspects in golf and how I can improve my golf but also meet new girls who play golf as it is hard to find close girl friends to play golf with,” said Akysha, 16.

“I had a really good time learning a better swing in my long game and short game, the camp helped me become much more accurate in my game.

“I’d encourage girls to participate in this camp as they can learn a lot more in their golf game but also it is hard to find close girl friends that play golf but going to this camp girls can meet close friends that are always able to play a fun round of golf with them.

Gemma, 11, wrote the following report for her club newsletter:

I really enjoyed playing golf with other girls around my age. I made 27 new friends on the camp as there where 28 girls including me. We had a lot of different people coaching us and it was interesting getting their feedback.

I got to stay in a cabin on the golf course with two other girls that even had a TV in it. They fed us buffet breakfasts, yummy dinners and even had mango for afternoon tea. We had a movie night and watched A Dog’s Journey in the golf resort’s real cinema with reclining seats!

I learnt heaps about golf and this camp has helped me want to play golf more back at home. We learnt about playing out of bunkers, chipping, putting and hitting long clubs on the range. We measured our clubs so I now know how far I can hit each one. We also played some fun activities like dart golf and golf rounders.

We finished the three day camp with an 9 hole Ambrose event. My team came fifth. I was proud and happy that my team used a lot of my shots during the event.

I am glad I went on the camp because I had lots of fun and made heaps of friends. The organisers said there will be some fun competitions over the coming year and I am looking forward to seeing my new friends from around Victoria at these events.
